Why did my surgeon recommend Hudson Crossing Surgery Center for my procedure instead of a hospital?

Hospitals have to be able to serve all sorts of patients with all sorts of illnesses and problems; Hudson Crossing is a specialized facility, and was designed from the ground up to be optimal for outpatient procedures like yours.

This focus permits us to operate very productively.  You’ll be able to check in and out quickly; your procedure won’t be  subject to being cancelled at the last minute because an operating room needs to be redeployed for an emergency procedure; compared to most hospitals, our ratio of nurses to patients is greater, and the risk of exposure to infections much lower.

How should I prepare for my procedure?

Your surgeon will provide you with your pre-surgical instructions.  It’s very important that you review these immediately, because they might require you to stop taking certain medications a few days before your surgery.  Nearly all procedures require that you not eat or drink after midnight the day before you are scheduled.  Do not hesitate to call your surgeon if you have any questions about your pre-surgical instructions.

What should I bring with me?

On the day of your procedure, please dress comfortably in clothing that is easy to take off and will be easy to put on when you’re ready to go home.  Do not wear perfume or jewelry. If you wear contact lenses, please bring a lens holder, any solutions you may require, or a replacement set of lenses with you as contacts may not be worn during your procedure.

Please bring your insurance card(s) and government issued identification to expedite your check-in.

Should I bring a family member or friend with me to the Center?

Absolutely.  You should make arrangements with an adult family member or friend to accompany you to the Center.  After your procedure, you will stay in our recovery area until you are ready to be discharged.  To ensure patient privacy, visitors will be asked to wait outside the recovery area; our nursing staff will provide them with updates on your condition.

Your surgeon and nurse will give you discharge instructions when you’re ready to go home.  It is very important that a responsible family member or friend be present to accompany you home (even if you’re utilizing our car service). That person should also be able to stay with you for 24 hours after your procedure.
